Testing Multicast with VLC media player

Server Side:

Multicast Stream test with VLC 1

To Start click on Media -> Stream

With “Add…” button add media you like to stream. Then hit Stream button

Select RTP (MPEG Transport Stream) to configure multicast stream…

Define which multicast address you want to use for your stream… You can change the port, or not…

I left Transcoding by default..

Check the box at the top and add “,ttl=10” before last “}”, You can see this in the image if you resize. Without this it could be sourced with TTL=1 and effectively dropped at the fist router.

Hiting the Stream button will start to send the stream. Checking the “repeat” option will play without stopping…

On the Client Side:

On the other side of the network Media -> Open Network Stream

Entering previously defined IP and Port for our stream.. And Hit Play..

If Everything went fine, we should see our Video Stream working

Start the App on Source and Destination Computer…

Select 1 on Server side to start multicast stream…

Select 2 on Client side to start receiving multicast stream and see if that is really working…
